Preparing
the initial drawings for the Lyre of Ur was a very
important stage in our process of recreating an
authentic replica of the instrument.
Bull's
head details
Despite the importance and the beauty of this historical
object, there was very little information recorded
regarding the size and dimension of the Lyre, there
were only a few images and photographs available
for the harp. In addition to that, most of these
images show parts of the harp only and not all of
it like the photo on the left. Many images were
taken from an angle like the images on the right
and the lower left. And due to the perspective distortion
they were not suitable for extracting the relevant
dimension needed to do the drawings. The rest of
the images were of poor quality or old.
Finally, the - came to our rescue and provided us
with a side view photograph for the harp. The -
also provided us with the only measurement we could
get hold of, it was extremely vital and important
measurement which proved to be very valuable in
our work later on.
The measurement from the top of the horns to
the middle bottom of the beard is 30 centimeters
as shown on the right image.
